Broward County is looking for volunteers to assist in the annual International Coastal Cleanup which is set to take place September 17, 2011.
In 2010, more than 1,700 people volunteered to clean up Broward’s beaches during the events, removing over 4,500 lbs. of trash from 12 different sites. The items ranged from small toys to cigarette butts.
This year’s event will take place from 9 am to 12:00 pm on September 17. The cleanup locations are Deerfield Beach, Pompano Beach, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, the beach at Oakland Park Boulevard, Hugh Taylor Birch State Park in Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale Beach Park, John U. Lloyd State Park in Hollywood, Dania Beach, Hollywood Beach North, Hollywood Beach Central, Hollywood Beach South and Hallandale Beach.
If you would like to participate, bring a hat, gloves, sunscreen and water. Dress appropriately for rain or shine. If you are wearing sandals, try to bring strapped sandals as they will be easier to walk in and manuever.
The event will only be canceled if there is a tropical storm watch or warning.
