Well it is new news to me, but apparently you are only allowed to bring your own picnic to Hollywood Beach in designated areas.
The city commission is looking to change that soon though.
According to a recent article at sun-sentinel.com,
On Hollywood beach, picnics are restricted to four areas between Sherman and Custer streets and in Charnow, Keating and Harry Berry parks. Although spottily enforced, eating and drinking elsewhere on the beach is prohibited, with the first citation costing $50. Subsequent citations run $100 and $200.
While I am not aware of anyone ever getting a citation for having brought their own ham sandwich to the beach, I do hope that they loosen the office rules to allow for a family gathering of food and beverage on the beach.
Although there are restaurants a-plenty along the broadwalk, sometimes it is nice to bring your own, or even get take out and eat under your umbrella.
It is much more fun than getting crumbs in your car seat.
