Hollywood Beach Gets Some New Sand – Beach Re-nourishment

Beach re-nourishment has begun along Hollywood Beach.

Starting December 2011 and slated for completion in February 2012 the truckloads have begun moving onto the beachfront and emptying their payloads so we can all enjoy the sun, fun and of course sand.

Some of the North areas are already completed and you can see some photos of the beach re-nourshiment activity.

During a visit of the north segment, off Lee Street, of the renourishment project, Lori noted that ” it looks and feels great! So far the project is going smoothly and quickly”.  Furthermore; “The contractor, Eastman, has placed approximately 9,000 tons in the North Segment as of early this week. Our consultant, Coastal Systems, had estimated 15,000 tons of sand for the North Segment, however Eastman indicated that an extensive amount of sand had moved into the near shore area with recent heavy wave activity. They are conservatively monitoring the design templates to not overfill the templates and risk potential impacts to hardbottom.
Eastman estimates the early start of the South Segment will be Thursday, 12/8,  and the late start would be Monday (12/12). Property owners are being notified. As of Tuesday, the contractor is doing final grading of the north segment and is beginning mobilization to bring the equipment down to the keating Park access, which will occur starting Wednesday.”
