It’s official, Hollywood is in South Florida.
Although originally incorporating over 85 years ago, Hollywood, FL did not have it’s own famous signage like its sibiling on the west coast of California. That is until now…
It seems that a new Hollywood sign has been put up, albeit temporarily, in South Florida for the filming of Tom Cruise’s new movie “Rock of Ages”.
Workers have built a temporary replica of the famouse Hollywood sign on the large Monarch Hill Landfill (better known as Mt. Trashmore to the locals) in Pompano Beach right next to the Florida Turnpike.
The sign is visible to drivers on the highway near Sample Road exit. The replica has letters 20 feet high, just like the real sign in L.A.’s Hollywood Hills.
“Rock of Ages” stars Tom Cruise as a rock star in the hair-band era of the 1980’s and is based on a Broadway musical of the same name.
The film is set in the late 1980s, features music from the period, including songs by Bon Jovi, Twisted Sister, Journey, Poison and Whitesnake.
Actors Diego Boneta and Julianne Hough were spotted filming on Hollywoood Beach this Monday.
Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Paul Giamatti also star in the movie.
Filming will continue over the next few weeks in locations throughout South Florida. We will see how close they actually get when filming the scenes at the dump, I am sure it will not be as pleasant for cast and crew as a day at the beach is.
