What a great way to start our new Hollywood, Florida website. The annual Hollywood Beach Candy Cane Parade is happening this evening on the magnificent Hollywood Broadwalk.
Bells and Bows on the Broadwalk
Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009
7:00 – 10:00 p.m.
Free admission.
One of my favorite events for the whole family, you can expect to see children off all ages scampering for candy tossed from the passing floats.
I suggest you bring a bag to collect the candy (mostly peppermint candy canes, with a few other treats thrown in) because one year my kids took home more candy from the Candy Cane Parade than they did on Halloween.
Now in its 54th year, this magical holiday tradition will feature live entertainment and an award-winning procession down the auto-free oceanfront Broadwalk Promenade. Look for festive floats, high-stepping marching bands, costumed characters and thousands of candy canes tossed to spectators along a one-mile parade route.
Hollywood Candy Cane Parade Parking
If you are looking to avoid the beach traffic, then park downtown and use the FREE Shuttle bus from The Fred Lippman Multi-Purpose Center located at 2030 Polk Street.
Standard Downtown parking fees apply, but at least the shuttle is free.
The shuttle will drop off at Johnson Street and A1A and it runs from 5:00pm-11:00pm
However you choose to get there, just make sure not to be late. If the weather is nice (which it always is this time of year) the space along the parade route fills up pretty quick. Don’t forget to bring a bag for all your candy canes!
I will post some photos and a great recipe for what you can do with all of your candy canes. It has become a holiday tradition at our house.
