One Day One Dance – World Peace

This year Humanity Road is proud to partner with National Dance Council Haiti and to promote One Day, One Dance, World Peace, a global event founded by Jeremy Gilley, the author of the World Peace day bill adopted by the United Nations.

One Day, One Dance, World Peace, will be held in Hollywood, Florida at the beautiful  Young Circle Arts Park Ampitheater on September 21, 2011 from 6pm to 10pm How can you help?   Come dance!

This is a free concert to celebrate all types of dance.  The signature event will include a swing band, swing dancers as well as Konpa and we encourage the audience to dance.  The show will be spotlighting Haitian art and artists and the music and dance of Haiti. “We are promoting the artists and art of Haiti to help with the revitalization of the Haitian artist community.” Said Francois Jacques, co-founder and President of National Dance Council of Haiti (NDCH). NDCH is the official umbrella organization for all forms of Dance in Haiti, as well as a portal for global dance collaboration. It is a non-profit, non-governmental organization recognized by the International Dance Council (CID/UNESCO).

NDCH was founded in 2004 by Michel F. Jacques, Jacques Alexander, Dominique Richez and the 2006 addition of Nicki Valme-Fraser and Josette Darguste. NDCH is committed to the advancement of all forms of dance in Haiti, its mission is to communicate, educate and promote the true cultural identity of Haiti. NDCH is a fellowship of members from the most prominent federations, associations, schools, companies and professional dancers among the community of Haiti as well as their collaborative partners worldwide.

“Dance has healing effects, we chose the One Day One Dance event as our National Preparedness Month spotlight because of the healing effects dance has on post traumatic stress syndrome and post-disaster recovery” Said Cat Graham with Humanity Road. “We want the world to know that there is so much more to the country of Haiti, and taking time to celebrate life and dance is important.”

There is a long history of beautiful art and culture including music and dance. Konpa is a dance that carries a heartbeat that has long been the source of joy for the citizens of Haiti. The combination of music and dance creates a rhythm that becomes not only a symphony for the head but a dialogue of the body. The relationship between words, sound and body movement is key to better understanding of the three ways of communication, linking people all over the world together.
